What is Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM)? TCVM encompasses four therapeutic modalities: Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Therapy, Food Therapy, Tui Na Massage Therapy. Dr. Dewey is the only certified TCVM practitioner (CTCVMP) in the area, meaning that he is certified in acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, food therapy, and tui na massage therapy.
Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) is a system that has been used in China to treat animals for thousands of years.
Containing ingredients with active therapeutic properties, they are often used in various forms, including pills, powders, liquids, or tinctures. Herbal treatment are used after an accurate diagnosis has been made by a certified veterinarian.
Despite its name, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is not a form of shock therapy. It use sound waves to influence tissue changes. By using the right setting and positioning, ESWT can target specific areas like tendons and joints. When used correctly, ESWT can result in less pain, a decrease in inflammation, and improved healing of soft tissue.
Acupuncture, commonly performed as Electro-Acupuncture, is frequently used to treat dogs with arthritis and joint inflammation. Dogs with chronic back pain and even dogs some spinal conditions may benefit. Acupuncture is low risk, generally painless, and minimally invasive.
Laser Therapy (also commonly referred to as "Cold Laser") invoiles use light energyannd waves in order to stimulate healing. It is commonly used to assist in healing for muscular sprain/strain, post-operative around incisions, and musculoskeletal pain.
Underwater Treadmill (UWT) is often used after injury or surgery to aid in recovery of the affected muscles and joints. UWT is also used for conditioning in sporting and working dogs as well as weight management efforts in over weight dogs. UWT works by allowing a dog or cat to walk while aided by the water. The water level is customizable so that dogs and cats of all sizes can use the equipment safely at an appropriate water level for their size and condition.
An excerise pool is used for dogs general exericse, or in rehablitation where the UWT is not the best option.
